About Penang and Batu Ferringhi Beach

Malaysia is a nation undergoing rapid transition towards a knowledge economy. Having rebounded from the Asian financial crisis of the late nineties, the country is in many ways a symbol of the future potential of Asian economies.

Common Ground Conferences

A large tropical Island in the north of Malaysia, Penang is the perfect venue for a conference concerned with people and knowledge, in all their global diversity. The Island is known for its vibrant and diverse Malay, Chinese and Indian communities. International and cross-cultural dialogue will be a highlight of the conference, as will be the kinds of collaborations required in an increasingly globalised world.

Take the opportunity to explore Penang and its environs. The main urban area on the island is historic Georgetown, a trading port established in the Malacca Straits during British colonial rule.

Common Ground Conferences

The conference venue is the Bayview Beach Resort, a four star hotel which fronts directly onto Batu Ferringhi Beach, on the beautiful north shore of the Island. The hills behind the beach are covered with thick tropical jungle, and the waves of the Straits of Malacca lap the beach in front of the hotel garden.

Common Ground Conferences

The Bayview Beach Resort, and indeed the whole of Penang, is noted for its variety of Asian and European cuisines. Accommodation will be available in the Bayview Beach Resort, as well as the nearby Holiday Inn, also on Batu Ferringhi Beach. Penang has an international airport, with connections through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore into the major world airline networks.
